What would you think of an organization that has received over $150,000 in taxpayer cash and grants over the last two years and has nothing to show for it?
What would you think of this organization if it continually stonewalled requests for financial information, or gave false and/or misleading information?
What would you think of the governmental agencies who apparently failed to insist on accountability for these tax dollars?
The governmental agencies are the City of Troutdale and Metro.
The organization is the West Columbia Gorge Chamber of Commerce.
The taxpayer money:
Over $80,000 of City of Troutdale general fund money given to the Chamber over the last two years.
Over $150,000 of Metro/Tri-Met grant money given to the Chamber over the last two years.
What the taxpayers got for their money: Zip.
I'm working on getting the details online, complete with e-mails, City Council meeting minutes, budget information, and grant terms and conditions. Then you can decide for yourself if your tax dollars are hard at work in Troutdale, or hardly working.
Stay tuned.
