Church BBQ: Would It Hurt To Play A Little Ollie Vee?

Our church had a BBQ this afternoon as part of a celebration of the installation of our new Executive Pastor. The food was great, the fellowship was great. And the music? It was your typical modern church rock stuff.

Don't get me wrong. Some of these Christian songs do rock. But they get a little annoying after awhile. And hey, it was a BBQ! What about some Tom Petty! Or some Foo Fighters? REM, anyone? Even some Louie Louie, me gotta go now? Where in the rule book does it say you HAVE to play only Christian music at a church BBQ? Ok, granted, you probably wouldn't want to play George Thorogood's "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer". But let's think outside the churchy church box for a minute, shall we?

Let's find out. My birthday's next week. What do I want for my birthday? A great gift would be if next Sunday my church opened its worship service with "Rock Around With Ollie Vee".
After all, "Praise ye the LORD. Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise in the congregation of saints"- - Psalms 149:1
