Troutdale's police station is in need of replacement. Currently housed in an old bank building, Troutdale's police department is packed to capacity from floor to ceiling. There's no more room for employees, storage, or meeting space. It's parking lot can't be secured, which has resulted in damage to our police cars from time to time.
At my suggestion, the city council directed city staff to conduct a poll of Troutdale voters, asking them their opinion regarding a possible public safety levy, which would fund the construction of a new police station. Voters are also being asked their opinion regarding the construction of a new city hall, which could be combined with a new police station.
If the poll results are very favorable, let's say in the 60% range, I'd support putting the issue on the November 2008 ballot.
We should have the poll results by the end of this month. I'll post the results as soon as I receive them.
