Troutdale City Council Streaming Video: Interested?

I proposed some new items at this week's city council goal setting session. One of them was a proposal to provide streaming video online for our city council meetings. Our meetings are currently broadcast on Comcast Cable. But not everyone is a Comcast subscriber.

City staff did some preliminary research. Upfront costs for hardware would run over $10k, and a the monthly cost could approach. $2000. The big questions: Do Troutdale residents want this? Would they watch it?

What do you think?

10k for streaming video? I find this a bit shocking considering I set up streaming video from my house for $20.00 that anyone can view with a web browser ($20.00 was the cost of the webcam). Of course there is the internet service fee (about $20.00 a month) and the computer (any Pentium 2 or better will work). I think for something top of the line 2k would be more realistic for the start up cost, and about $50 a month for fee's.

Whatever the cost, do it. Those of us without Comcast are suffering. We recently changed from Comcast to Verizon not knowing it does not carry the county access channel. We erred. So please, yes, proceed with the streaming video.
